Learning from kids

Some things you learn when you grow up but sometimes you see things in kids that is so amazing you have to learn from it.

5 year old Kruthika lost her tooth and was very excited that the tooth fairy gave her a dollar. Avinaash, her 31/2 year old brother, came running to hear what the commotion was all about. When he found out that his sister got a dollar he wanted to know where his was. "Sorry", said his dad, "you have to wait until you lose a tooth."

"That's OK, when I lose my tooth I will get a hundred million dollars." Hearing that Kruthika asked,"So what about me?" "You already got your dollar, but when it is my turn I will get a hundred million dollars." Feeling totally sidelined Kruthika started crying about not getting a hundred million dollars when she loses her tooth.

So, what have I learnt from this? You have to hand it to this 3.5 year old, he has nothing in hand but he is so confident that he will get a hundred million dollars, that he made the child who had money cry. Street smarts or amazing self confidence - either way I want to hang around him. I might learn a few more things.

What kind of person are you?

There are three groups of people

The first group are brilliant - in everything - everything comes easy to them, nothing is too hard. They don't even have to try, however, there is a flaw. They cannot handle failure. It is hard for them to contemplate that they can fail - at anything.

The second group work really hard - and if it does not work the first time, they learn from their mistakes and keep going. They are good people and they can even handle failure.

The third group are very capable of being very successful if they want to. If they decide to do anything, it is because they have to not because they care, if they don't, it is because they don't want to. They are mostly oblivious to success and failure - marching to the beat of their own drum.

What struck me about this very specific demarcation of people was that it was explained to me by my 11 year old based on his experience with life. Interestingly his Dad falls in the first category, his sister, who is his hero, is in the second category and his mom and he both fall in the third category. He also gave examples of some of the other people he knows and I have to say he is right on the money.

Now I am not sure whether I should be upset about being put in the 3rd category or impressed with his observation and logic.

So which group are you in?

My present please!

I think it must be in the genes - I don't know of any other family that come up with some real classic explanations/reasoning/logic. Both my son and nephew have come up with some amazing logic - you wonder where they get it from. (*cough cough - it must be from my side of the family!)

His birthday is in July but he asked for his birthday present earlier.
Why?
Because if I have a birthday - I will grow old.
I do not want to grow old - so I have decided no more birthdays.
But I still need my presents.

Hmmm Good thinking. Now, why didn't I think of that?
